Waterland Outdoor Pursuits

 

Keynes Country Park, at the Cotswold Water Park, near Cirencester.

 

For the last 11 years the Women Only Training Weekend has been an unqualified successes.  Everyone has had a great Saturday soaking up the sun and coaching information, a great evening in the camp site, and then all went out and performed superbly in the Sunday’s Sprint Triathlon.  So it’s going to be seven years in a row as we’re going to do it again in 2017.  The weekend is aimed at first timers, novices and anyone who wants to gain confidence with swimming in openwater.

 

SATURDAY

Openwater swim training in a safe, clear, freshwater lake with lifeguard cover and BT qualified coaches. The day will be aimed at introducing and familiarising first-timers and novice open water swimmers to life outside a heated pool.  This is an opportunity to learn how to swim confidently outdoors, and to pick up lots of experience and advice on how to get around a triathlon course.  As well as the swimming, there will be advice on how to survive transitions, simple bike maintenance (including dealing with a puncture) and coping with the bike/run transition with a smile! 

 

Camping is available adjacent to the lake, so there is an opportunity for socialising.

 

SUNDAY

Put all you have learnt into practice in one of the three distances in the Cotswold Women Only Triathlon staged by Tri Ferris Promotions. 

 

Then there is the cost for the overnight campsite (£10.00 last year) and the cost of your race entry. You will need:

 

  • Trisuit or swimming costume, towels, goggles
  • Wetsuit
  • Flask of hot coffee/tea/chocolate
  • Loads of munchies to consume during the day
  • Bike shoes, bike, helmet
  • Spare inner tube, pump, puncture repair kit
  • Tent and camping gear (if you are staying the night)
  • Food
  • Drink
  • Race kit (for those racing)
  • More food and drink

 

 

 

What you'll need

General kit list:

  • Trainers
  • Shorts/Leggings
  • T-Shirt or top
  • Water bottle
  • Towel

Swimming:

  • 1 or 2 piece costume for ladies
  • Trunks or shorts for men
  • A wetsuit if your swim is open water
  • Don't forget your goggles!

Biking:

  • Bike* (any bike will do)
  • Helmet
  • * If this GO TRI activity uses spin bikes, you don't need to bring your own bike *

Running:

  • All you need is a pair of trainers
