GO TRI Runs in the Family

If I can complete a GO TRI then anyone can complete a GO TRI. Seriously, just sign up and turn up. and we think you will agree that she goes to prove that GO TRI runs in the family.

“I took part in a GO TRI event on Saturday 10 June with my 14-year-old daughter Phoebe. I signed up in a moment of madness at New Year. My daughter joined me as part of my training for GO TRI and together we complete a mini duathlon. When Phoebe crossed the line, she vowed that she would never do another one.

Throughout the months I continued my training and Phoebe stood and watched. She noticed how it motivated me and figured that she might as well join in instead of sitting on the side lines.

We decided to launch a JustGiving page in support of pancreatic cancer and raised over £570, so we couldn’t just give up. People were counting on us to complete the race.

Leading up to and throughout our first GO TRI event, the support we received was incredible. The coaches who had encouraged, advised and educated us had been amazing.

Our swimming coach Fiona Hoare had taught us what we needed to know about the swim. The same can be said for Oliver Hylands who supported us with the transitions. Thanks also goes to Francis Riley, (coach and Yorkshire Regional Chair) Michelle Scott, (Regional Manager) and the Bramley Baths team. Together, they have done a fantastic at encouraging a 50+ year old and a 14-year-old, who’s friends now think that triathlon is pretty cool.

In September we did the Bramley GO TRI event and Phoebe flew through the finish line as the 3rd fastest women. I was quite comfortable running the race at my own pace. Since then Phoebe has joined Bramley Baths Junior Tri on Saturdays and has picked up Parkruns also. I got a last-minute spot at the Ilkey Triathlon and loved every minute of it.

GO TRI gives you such amazing support and encouragement all the way through. Looking forward to the future, I have since signed up for my first sprint triathlon at the ITU World Triathlon Leeds and my first Quadrathon which consist of a 750m swim, 4k kayak, 25k bike ride and a 5k run which is taking place in July. Phoebe hasn’t yet booked but is contemplating the Junior event at ITU World Triathlon Leeds.

If I can complete a GO TRI then anyone can complete a GO TRI. Seriously, just sign up and turn up."
