Training for GO TRI

Detta attended a GO TRI session leading up to the GO TRI event at the ITU World Triathlon Leeds in June.

I started running 4 years ago - I couldn’t run a mile before I started, but within a year I had completed my first half marathon. However, after running 7 half marathons, injuries had started to take their toll, which meant that I was unable to run for several months.

During that time, I’ve watched my brothers compete in the sprint and standard triathlon at the ITU World Series events in London and Leeds and felt inspired to give it ago.

This year, I bit the bullet and I’ve just completed my third GO TRI training session at Perdiswell Leisure Centre in Worcester. I really feel as though I am getting the support and help from the coaches and I am really enjoying myself.

To work towards the GO TRI event at the ITU World Triathlon Series in Leeds I also attended a practice session on the 2nd of June at Perdiswell.

I felt particularly nervous about the transitions but we had Juliet Wallace-Mason (a Team GB Age Group triathlete) come and join us for one of our run sessions which put my mind at ease and made me comfortable with the transition.

On June 9th, I completed the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds in a good time and I felt really proud crossing that finish line. I had a few mishaps along the way including swallowing a lot of water around the first buoy and my chain came off in the bike section but I managed to complete it in one piece.

During the event I managed to raise £350 for Mind, the mental health charity so I had that additional buzz.
